Clairvio vs. Datadog Session Replay: Pricing, Features, and Fit
Short answer: Datadog Session Replay costs $2.50 per 1,000 sessions per month (billed annually) on top of Real User Monitoring, and it is the stronger choice if your team already lives in Datadog and wants replays linked to backend traces and logs. Clairvio is a narrower, on-demand tool for support and engineering teams that need to debug specific customer-reported issues without running an always-on recorder for every visitor.
This comparison is honest about both, including where Datadog is cheaper. Datadog prices were checked on Datadog's RUM pricing page on October 13, 2026; confirm current terms before you buy.
The Core Difference: Platform vs. Workflow
Datadog is an observability platform. Session Replay is part of its Real User Monitoring (RUM) product, which sits alongside APM, logs, infrastructure monitoring, and synthetics. A replay can be opened from a RUM session and connected to the backend traces and logs for the same request. Recording is configured through the RUM SDK with sampling rates, so you choose what share of traffic is captured.
Clairvio is built around one workflow: a customer reports a problem, your team sends a magic link (or the customer starts a session from the support widget), and you get a replay with console errors and network requests for that reproduction. Visitors who never ask for help are never recorded.
If you need to see sessions that happened before anyone reported them, or correlate frontend behaviour with backend performance across all traffic, Datadog is built for that. If you need the full technical context for the specific bug a customer is describing right now, Clairvio is built for that.

Datadog Session Replay Pricing
Datadog's published RUM and replay rates, per 1,000 sessions per month:
- RUM Measure: $0.15 billed annually ($0.22 on-demand), applied to full traffic. Metrics are retained for 15 months.
- RUM Investigate: $3 billed annually ($4.50 on-demand), applied to the sessions you retain. Sessions, views, and errors are kept for 30 days.
- Session Replay: $2.50 billed annually ($3.60 on-demand), added to retained sessions and billed separately.
Worked example: an app with 100,000 monthly sessions that retains and replays 10% of them would pay about $15 for RUM Measure, $30 for RUM Investigate on 10,000 sessions, and $25 for 10,000 replays: roughly $70 per month on annual pricing, or about $102 on-demand. Volume and multi-year discounts are available from Datadog.
Per session, Datadog is far cheaper than Clairvio. The difference is what you pay for: Datadog bills for a sampled share of all traffic, so the replay you need may or may not have been captured. Clairvio bills for a fixed allowance of deliberate reproductions (25 free, 200 for $9, 1,000 for $49, 5,000 for $99), and every one of them is a session someone asked to investigate. Debug the next customer-reported bug with a magic link. No always-on recorder, no sampling rules. Console errors and network requests included.
Where Datadog Is Genuinely Stronger
- Full-stack correlation. If you already run Datadog APM and logs, jumping from a replay to the backend trace for the same request is hard to beat.
- Historical coverage. Sampled always-on capture means you can find a session after the fact, without asking the user to reproduce anything.
- Performance monitoring. Core Web Vitals, long tasks, and resource timing across real traffic are part of RUM.
- Unit cost at scale. At high volume, per-1,000-session pricing is much cheaper per recording.
- One vendor. Teams consolidating observability may prefer one contract and one UI.
Where Clairvio Is Genuinely Stronger
- Support-led debugging. Support can send a magic link without engineering configuring sampling or searching through sessions.
- Guaranteed capture of the reported issue. The session is recorded because someone needs it, not because it fell inside a sample.
- Less data collected. Visitors who never ask for help are never recorded, which simplifies GDPR review and PII masking.
- Predictable bill. A flat plan does not change when traffic spikes.
- Built-in support tooling. The support widget, help center, and messages are included on every plan.
Which Teams Should Choose Each
Choose Datadog if you are already a Datadog customer, need frontend-to-backend correlation, want performance monitoring on real traffic, or need to investigate sessions nobody reported.
Choose Clairvio if most of your replay use starts with a customer ticket, you do not run Datadog elsewhere, or you would rather not load an always-on recorder for every visitor. Some teams use both: Datadog for monitoring and Clairvio for support reproductions.

Datadog Session Replay: Common Questions
How much does Datadog session replay cost?
Datadog lists Session Replay at $2.50 per 1,000 sessions per month billed annually, or $3.60 on-demand. Replays are added to RUM sessions, which are billed separately: RUM Measure at $0.15 per 1,000 sessions and RUM Investigate at $3 per 1,000 retained sessions (annual pricing, checked October 13, 2026).
Does Datadog session replay require RUM?
Datadog positions Session Replay as an enhancement to Real User Monitoring, and replays attach to RUM sessions. Budget for RUM sessions and replay together rather than comparing the replay rate alone.
How long does Datadog keep session replays?
Datadog states that session replays and RUM sessions are retained for 30 days by default. Longer retention is arranged through your Datadog account team.
Is Datadog session replay worth it?
It is worth it if you already run Datadog APM and logs, because replays link frontend sessions to backend traces in one place. If you only need to debug specific customer-reported issues, a focused on-demand tool can be simpler to adopt.
